Evaluation Question 3

3) What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Any music magazine publisher that focuses on my genre of music which is indie folk and others of this type would be able to distrubute my product, they would have a pre-determind audience and although my magazine appeals to the younger generation who are interested in up-coming musicians or any audience interested in music they would be suitable as they would be interested no matter what they were reading.

Evaluation Question 1

1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

These are the conventions of current music magazine that I found after evaluation of similar media products

  • masthead
  • sub-headings
  • cover stories
  • pictures
  • captions
  • page references
  • quotes from articles
  • big images covering almost all the space on a page

  • I have included all of these within my media product which represent and fit in well with the design of my magazine. The double page spread contains an image that covers the whole 2 pagesd with the writing filling the space that the image doesnt, this has worked well and is comparable to other media products as a double page spread usualy contains one main story rather than seperate cover stories. My front cover also has references to other pages within the magazine and many sub headings informing the reader on other sections of the magazine. My front cover also challenges conventions by having a main image that isnt kept within the bnorder of the page althought the top of the page contains the title over the head of "George" as when stood in a magzine rack this is all that will be readable if it isnt displayed on the font of the rack. Many music magazines have a single coloured silhouette of a single artist when my cover has "George" posing with his guitar that overflows over the edge of the page I feel this has worked well as it stands out form the normal and makes my cover interesting because its different. My contents page containes the normal information a contents page includes such as the contents for the magazine but I have used less images than current magazine as many publishers use this page to display many images but I felt this detracted from the importance of this page so I used less images to highlight the information.

    Evaluation Question 4 and 5

I have created a prezi to answer these questions.

    http://prezi.com/4r31oseo2um5/untitled-prezi/

    Evaluation Question 6

    6) What have you learnt about technologies from the processes of constructing this product?

The new Technologies I have used is the MAC that my school has in place for us to use. I have used the MAC to edit change alter and create my magazine edition for Music Matters the software upon the MAC's that I have used is Pages and IPhoto.

The MAC that I used was very helpful as it contained all of the programmes that I needed to produce a high quality magazine it had IPhoto already installed and pages which was very helpful in the designing process.
IPhoto was used to edit the images that I took on my photo shoot, my images were of high quality so they worked well with this software and i was pleased with the outcome after blemishes were removed and the contrast was altered.

I have also used social networks such as Facebook, this was used to collect people to answer my questionnaire that was made in SurveyMonkey without this medium i would of had to ask people individually and the process would have been much more lengthy and tedious.

For the Photo shoots I have also used a Nikon camera that I have supplied myself with a tripod and 2 umbrella lights to remove shadows behind the camera flash and to steady the camera so that there was no wobble. all of the images i collected were from the same room and using the same setup the images were then altered on IPhoto.

    Evaluation Question 7

I have made a powerpoint presentation answering question 7 of the evaluation

    Evaluation question 2

    2) How does your media product represent particular social groups?

I have used wordle to highlight and represent the most common and most inportant words in this question I feel this works well as with a simple image the answer can be implied.

My media product targets various social groups as music is for everyone to enjoy and listen to and anyone can read any music magazine. Although because of the articles and main image used on the front cover of a teenage boy, I feel that because of this it targets the younger age group.  The genre of music that my magazine includes is "indie" this is shown through the clothes that "George Stroud" wears in the images of him and it also represents folk and other various music genres, the acuostic guitar themed in both pictures also attracts the attention of yougn guitarists and young musicians because of this it attracts many social groups and I feel anyone with a music taste would feel interested in reading this magazine.

Front cover, Contents page, Double page spread

This is the completed magazine, I have changed the main image on the front cover to gain a more personal feel with the artist and I have added more images to the double page spread and contents page to add to the look of the magazine. I have edited the image on the front cover to remove some blemishes and writing on the wall that the picture was taken I did this using iPhoto. I have also added more text to the contents page and a banner including images down the bottom to show some of the information this and the next edition includes.

Changes to be made to the first edition

    Front cover

I will be changing the image in the background of the front cover to an image where George is looking at the lense as this show more confidence and makes the rerader more involoved with the cover. I will be adding more text and information to make it look more proffesional and not so empty.

    Double Page spread

I will be editing the picture on this page to get it to look more realistic and to change the contrast so that the background isnt so bright. I will add a banner down the bottom of the page that will contain more smaller images of goerge in various positions to give the reader my audionce a more intimate realationship with the artist when they are reading the magazine.

    Contents page

I will be adding more page informatiopn to the contents page to give a more realistic feel to the layout of the magazine and I will also add some images that realate to this text and will edit these so that they blend in with the backgound and dont look like seperate images.

Once all of these changes are made and the second version is complete I will post this version onto the blog and then add and edit this edition to get the final version and comlpeted product.

    Third photoshoot

    Information on third photoshoot

I have decided to take a second photoshoot as the firstr images although were good didnt quite match or fit with the magazine as well as id have hoped. I have resot George Stroud with his guitar and this time he is lookling at the camera lense as I feel this type of posture shows a more comfident artist, rather than not looking at the lense he seams to be hiding or shy and this isnt what the conventuion for magazine covers are.

    Flat plan

Before creating the magazine I created flat plans for the front cover contents page and double page spreas I hand drew these images and then transfered them onto hear. Each flat polan describes what will go where upon each page and the layout and design of the page.

This is the image of the contents page that we designed for the magazine we will follow this as closely as we can when designing but alter it when we need to.

This is the image of the design for the double page spread there will be a large image in the background that spreads across the whole two pages and there willl be two large columns of text for the information to occupy we will also follow this as closely as possible but alter it when we need to.

This is another flat plan that we created we are going to use the front cover design for our real magazine as it is the best design we could come up with and it follows the conventions of magazines that are on the market today so it fits with the market needs and wants.
